In Rememberance

With emotions high I look back on that day
Everything was unexpected, surreal, and stunning, I must say

As I reflect, the anger, once again,  rises in my emotions
Ruthlessly attacked on our land, till then no one had these notions

Innocent lives were shoved through death’s door
Actions of vengeance, displaced hatred,  and a declaration of war

On that day 3,497 people were stripped of their life
Innocent souls not even directly involved in any strife

At 8:46 on that day hijacked as a missile of death Flight 11 struck
Targeting the North Tower, leaving most people dumbstruck

People shrieking, children crying, all caught unawares
Forcing hordes of people scrambling down the giant’s stairs

Forever in everyone’s mind the sight of that fireball will be engraved
A symbol of the new path for our country this cowardly act paved

Then again at 9:02  Flight 175,  forcefully slammed into the South Tower
Another attack causing all Americans to never forget this abhorrent hour

The video of the winged, massive beast ramming into the building
Assassins  setting the stage for a different world to begin unfolding

With no chance to recuperate, at 9:37 Flight 77  hits the Pentagon
Unprecedented, this attack demonstrates that our safety is foregone

Shockingly at 9:59 the wounded southern monolith began to crumble
Plumes of dust and smoke spewed from the South Tower as the ground did rumble

Meanwhile Flight 93 is headed back toward Washington D. C.
But as heroes struggle with hijackers, at 10:03 its mission no one lived to see.

Every citizen of this country watching the horror in aghast
Pleading in our prays that the North Tower would stand fast

Then, without warning, at 10:28 it too unceremoniously did fall
All of us onlookers knowing that there was nothing we could do at all

Americans will forever remember standing together on this day in our history
Today the memorial, Reflecting Absence, serves as our conciliatory

All of us mourn with pride in our hearts amidst the footprints of the giant two.
With prayers for those who were lost and those who have survived too

I am proud to be an American, loyal to her I will always be
Today I stand in defiance of this cowardly act; God bless America, I do decree

In memoriam to those who lost there lives and for those whose lives were touched by this day in history.  On this day 1,609 people lost a spouse or partner on 9/11. More than 3,051 children lost parents.  While it was mostly Americans who were killed in this horrific attack, there were also 327 foreign nationals killed.

3,497 victims

247 heroic people on the four planes

  • 87 people on American Airlines Flight 11
  • 60 people on United Airlines Flight 175
  • 59 people on American Airlines Flight 77
  • 36 people on United Flight 93

125 civilians and military personnel at the Pentagon
